The Rome-Floyd County Development Authority has announced that an EPA Assessment Grant of $500,000 has been awarded.
The grant will be used to assess two properties in the City of Rome for contamination and determine what must be done in order to allow for future uses.
“You may remember discussions over the years about the former O’Neil property, and then a property that was formerly a landfill across from Rome High School—it’s about two acres that Sammy [Rich] and I talked about identifying for the applications,” said Mary Grace Selman with the development authority. “We’ve submitted all the paperwork for that ahead of tomorrow’s deadline, and we will wait to hear back to see if any revisions need to be made. So, that is good to go, and the official project start date for that is October 1.”
Also during their Tuesday meeting, the development authority approved an amendment to an agreement with Elevated Steel.
The company has plans to construct a facility at the North Floyd Industrial site near the Lowe’s Distribution Center.
“We entered into a second amendment to the commercial sales agreement, which extends the closing date to July 27,” said Development Authority attorney Andy Davis. “Last week, they presented us with another amendment, and we wanted to bring it to the full board because Elevated Steel is using an LLC to buy the property. It was a name change, and it caught us off guard, so we wanted to come back to the board to do that. It’s still Elevated Steel, but it’s the people who own it that have created the CKBKL Properties, LLC, a limited liability company.”
In March, it was first announced that the Adairsville-based company and the Rome-Floyd County Development Authority had agreed on the purchase of land that will bring about 100 new jobs to the area.
