Georgia drivers are paying more at the pump as Labor Day travel demand pushes gas prices higher across the state, with the holiday weekend in full swing. The gas price average is now $3.89 (subject to change overnight).
“After a record-setting August, Labor Day weekend is shaping up to make history at the pump as well. Elevated crude oil prices and strong travel demand have combined to push fuel costs higher,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Despite the added expense, many Georgians still chose to hit the road and make the most of the long holiday weekend.”
Compared to recent benchmarks:
- 11 cents higher than last week
- 7 cents higher than last month
- 98 cents higher than last year
For those filling up a standard 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline, the cost is approximately $58.35.
Local averages on Monday, according to AAA, were $3.83 in Floyd and Chattooga Counties, $3.85 in Bartow County, and $3.86 in Polk County.
Gordon County had the highest average price in the area at $3.87.
Nationally: High Gas Prices Continue to Persist Across the Country
Labor Day travelers are paying record-high gas prices, with the national average reaching $4.14 per gallon, up seven cents from last week. Crude oil prices above $90 per barrel continue to keep pressure on fuel costs, outweighing the seasonal drop in gasoline demand. As a result, drivers are paying 32 cents more than the previous Labor Day record of $3.82 per gallon set in 2012.
