As Mental Health Awareness Month ends, the local nonprofit and mental health clubhouse, Elevation House, celebrates a successful inaugural event with Taste of Rome 2023. On May 16, Taste of Rome welcomed nearly 400 guests to the Courtyard by Marriott Rome Riverwalk for an evening that (along with the coinciding Annual Online Auction) raised $42,000.

The event was complete with food and beverage “tastes” from 21 of Rome’s finest culinary establishments, six stellar raffle prizes, and live entertainment by Kevin Allen Music Production. Rock-N-Roll Sushi took home the award for “Best Taste 2023.” Attendees also had the privilege of hearing stories of adversity, progress, and recovery from several members of Elevation House.

“I have been so impressed by the willingness of the restaurants, sponsors, and donors to support Elevation House,” Executive Director Beth Mulcahey said. “Fundraising is essential for Elevation House to carry out its mission to end economic and social isolation for adults living with mental illness.”

While celebrating a successful first-time event is in order, the members, board, and staff at Elevation House also recognize that 30 percent of their fundraising goal for the Taste of Rome and Online Charity Auction endeavors has yet to be met. They offer supporters and mental health advocates a call-to-action to help close the gap between the $42,000 raised and the $60,000 goal.

“Continued fundraising efforts will sustain Elevation House, expand opportunities and assist more members with moving forward,” Mulcahey affirmed.

The organization looks toward a very specific and essential goal to be met using the funds raised. Mulcahey explained that a van would assist with transporting Elevation House members to the program, to job fairs and to interviews, not to mention it would also propel the organization’s efforts to build up their social program. Opportunities to be social with peers are vital for members’ paths to recovery.

Elevation House affirms without hesitation that Taste of Rome will be back next year for another night of fantastic food and drink, dancing, and an altruistic opportunity that remains to be an essential asset to members of the Rome/Floyd community.
