Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center has again received an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, celebrating the hospital’s commitment to protecting patients from preventable harm and errors.

The hospital also received an “A” rating from the organization during its spring assessment.

The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.

“Patient safety is one of the many things we focus on here to ensure the best outcomes possible for all of our patients,” said Atrium Health Floyd President Kurt Stuenkel. “We hold daily huddles every morning during the week to look at ways where we can improve. This award is truly an endorsement of the work and dedication of all our teammates.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harm to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent, and free to the public.

Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
