High school construction students from local and surrounding counties gathered at the Coosa Valley Fairgrounds on Thursday morning for the Northwest Georgia Skills Challenge.

The Associated General Contractors of Georgia (ACG) partnered with Duffy Southeast Construction to host the skills challenge, which is one of eight regional events hosting over 2,300 students from nearly 100 schools throughout the state.

Counties with high schools invited to compete in the challenge included Bartow, Chattooga, Floyd, Gordon, Polk, and more.

Students who are members of SkillsUSA and competed in the skills challenge are eligible to earn a bid to the State Leadership and Skills Competition (SLSC) that will be held in February 2024.

In the video above, WRGA News spoke with the CEO of the ACG, Mike Dunham, about why this event is helpful to growing the next generation of workers. We also spoke with the Northwest Georgia Skills Challenge sponsor, Dan Baker, CEO of Duffy Southeast Construction about how the companies involved with the challenge can recruit students involved.
